Matthew Boesler’s Business Insider article has covered a ConvergEx Group report predicting that the ‘sharing economy’ will “have an effect similar to that of the Depression”.
The argument is that as more people rent goods rather than buy, production levels decrease, ultimately stagnating investment and growth.
In other words, because we no longer need to purchase a bouncy castle each, but rather can share just one amongst the neighbourhood, the production of bouncy castles will go down.
Heaven forbid as we all save money individually, spending it on other items we need, rather than contributing to the bouncy castle manufacturer’s pot. Further, we don’t manage to waste quite as many of the earth’s resources in producing ten identical bouncy castles.
Sharing economy websites such as TaskRabbit, TaskPandas, Airtasker, Airbnb, or ZipCar are apparently “to blame” for this sad occurrence via their IT structures which allow people to directly rent and share resources from each other, instead of buying them brand new.
The article, for example, disdainfully cites the high traffic of Airbnb and ZipCar as evidence of a failing economy, a profound change in the “consumer psyche …. fostering a generation of ‘renters’ and ‘sharers.’”
I believe, though, that we should rejoice in these high traffic metrics. It’s a sign that we are learning to trust each other, and share our toys.
This is a story of how the local delivery of a cake saved our office from anarchy and total destruction.
We blew it.
We stood there wondering what utter fools we were. Things were about to blow up in our face.
Let’s backtrack a bit…
It was a sunny Monday morning. The sun was up, birds were chirping. The phones were ringing in our office, and we’d had new panda signups and tasks posted over the weekend (yay!). Things were looking good for the day. Then we realised something. Something horrible. We’d forgotten Caroline, our bright intern’s birthday.
The crushing stupidity of our forgetfulness was about to land us in some big trouble. What’s a team if you can’t remember someone’s birthday? We felt doomed. We were wondering how we were going to save ourselves. And then it came to us! We’ll use TaskPandas.com!
We hurriedly wrote a task for a birthday cake, and someone came to the rescue.
Caroline loved it. Crisis averted, and we had some cake. Who doesn’t love cake?

Making the most of your days off can be difficult, with workplace stresses demanding your attention right until the required phone switch-off on the airport runway. Al Gini, a business ethics professor at Loyola University of Chicago warns that “People very often take three days of vacation and work right up until the end. Those first three days you’re exhausted and confused and still tied in knots.”
His advice is to give yourself permission to slow down leading up to your trip by taking a few days for packing and for wrapping things up at work. A last minute taskPanda to help you wrap things up - clean the house, cook dinner, or pick up some dry-cleaning - might make all the difference and allow you to fully appreciate your time off.
Here are three ways a taskPanda can help take care of your holiday needs, allowing you to make the most of those precious days off.
1. Let a taskPanda tackle the inevitable hassles of holiday planning - researching convenient flights, organising airport transfers, finding a last minute hotel room or car rental deal, or sourcing travel necessities such as maps, routes, adaptors or tents. A taskPanda could even uncover which restaurants, bars and clubs are the hottest of the season, or which areas most photogenic to get lost in. Passing all these tasks over to a Panda will leave all the good bits - enjoying the holiday - to you!
2. Treat yourself, and let a reliable, local taskPanda take care of your needs while you’re out of town so that you can relax, rejuvenate, and fully enjoy your time in the sunshine. TaskPandas can do anything, be it house-sitting, pet-sitting, gardening, or pick up and delivery
3. A study by the University of Chicago found that people who use their time productively on holiday are happier than people who are idle. So busy yourself with the best while on holiday - enlist a taskPanda to help you book Bikram yoga classes, or find a Le Cordon Bleu culinary demonstration. If you’re interested in fashion, for example, you could delegate research to a taskPanda to find out the more secret shops, sales and fashionista hotspots, so that when you arrive in town you don’t have to waste time scouring for the newest trends.
So stop waiting for the British summer to appear, and plan a stress-free getaway with TaskPandas.com today.
